Unit Manager for the Swedish Customs Intelligence Department
Do you want to work in an authority that makes a difference in society and have meaningful, interesting, and exciting tasks? We are looking for an engaged manager who wants to lead and develop the Swedish Customs Intelligence Department.
The operational activities of the Swedish Customs are divided into four departments: Control Department, Revenue Department, Customs Crime Department, and Intelligence Department. The Intelligence Department handles intelligence and risk analysis within all parts of the Customs' mission, regarding both illegal and dangerous goods as well as revenue collection.
The department is divided into four units with geographical responsibilities: South, West, East, and North. The department also has two national units – the Customs Selection Center (TSC) and the unit for strategic analysis and national desk (Sand). In addition, the department has a management support/secretariat that works to ensure that the department's work is efficient, legally secure, and forward-looking. The management support includes experts, employees working on development issues, and administrative support. We are now looking for a unit manager for this operation.
About the position
As the unit manager for the management support, you will, together with the department management (department head and deputy department head), steer, lead, follow up, and develop the operations. You will be part of the department's management group along with other unit managers, the deputy department head, and the department head. Your role will be to prepare and process agenda items for management group meetings, to take minutes of these meetings, and to actively participate in discussions and decisions together with others in the management group.
As the manager for the management support, you will support the department management by developing, leading, and coordinating the department's work and development. Together with the employees in the management support, you will prepare documentation for the department management before decisions, you will be responsible for managing the risk portfolio, consultations, annual reports, action plans, follow-ups, and will be involved in the department's development work.
You will do this by ensuring that the employees within the management support function well and deliver good results in line with set goals and assignments. You should lead the group in a structured manner and through a coaching leadership style, as well as develop and strengthen the employees. You will ensure that the employees provide effective operational support and that the department's processes are maintained.
As a manager, you are required to act in an employer role in matters concerning operational, economic, competence, work environment, and personnel responsibility. You also have a significant responsibility to ensure that you and your employees actively work according to the Customs' values, which create conditions for realizing the Customs' goals and direction.
You have employees in different locations in Sweden and lead them both through direct leadership and remotely.
We are looking for someone who has:
- A university degree in economics, political science, behavioral science, or law, or equivalent qualifications as assessed by the employer
- Managerial experience that has involved leading and developing an operation and achieving good results
- Experience from a government authority and understanding of how an authority functions in management, governance, organization, and follow-up
- Swedish citizenship
- Good knowledge of Swedish and English in both speech and writing
- Good knowledge of the Office suite
It is advantageous if you have:
- Experience working with or being responsible for personal data management
- Leadership training
- Experience of management group work
- Understanding of development issues
- Experience working in law enforcement agencies
- Experience of international work
- Experience leading remotely
